Traveling with our large family comes with certain challenges, the biggest one being where to stay. Most hotels don’t have rooms big enough for all of us, even if we book the largest suite. We are usually relegated to getting 2 rooms…sometimes we get a lucky and they are adjoining and sometimes were are not so lucky and end up on opposite ends of the hotel. Either way, cramming 8 of us into 2 hotel rooms with only 2 bathrooms is less than ideal.
A few years ago, we were planning a trip to the beach. The hotel selection was not cutting it, most of the hotels in the area only offered rooms with 2 double beds…Seriously? 2 double beds? Even with 2 rooms, that is pretty tight quarters, even for our close knit family. I decided to take the advice of a friend and check out the rental properties on HomeAway.com. I was impressed with the affordability and selection of houses for rent. I found a few that sounded really great and had fantastic reviews (I have to admit that I won’t stay in a house without reviews).
After looking at our hotel options versus the options on HomeAway.com, it was a no brainer, by renting a house we would not only save money but actually be able to enjoy our vacation together, not in hotel rooms on opposite sides of the world.
The house we stayed in was everything we hoped it would be and our beach vacation was everything we hoped it would be! We had a full kitchen to cook all our meals, complete privacy and plenty of room so we weren’t up in each others business all day and night. In fact, now we go back to that same house every year.
