This was one of the few projects that all my kids did together, it was fun having all 6 of them in the room using their creativity together….sigh…one of those great homeschool mommy moments that needs to be kept in the back of my mind for whenever I start to doubt my choice to homeschool. Anyway, enough sentimental nonsense and onto the art!
Here are the supplies we used:
Blue painters tape (we used 1 inch tape)
8 x 10 canvas
tempura paint (the pin said acrylic, but that was not happening in my house with my 2 and 4 year old participating)
The first thing you’ll need to do is place your tape on the canvas. You can put the tape anyway you want as long as you are creating blocks of space that will be painted later. make sure the tape is smoothed down completely.
Next paint in the shapes that you created using the tape.
Wait for the paint to dry completely. This is very important, if you remove the tape too early the paint will bleed onto the canvas. After the paint has dried you can peel off the tape, and there you have a fantastic masterpiece suitable for hanging.
If you are going to do this project I would recommend the following things:
If you use canvas, use the acrylic paint. The tempura paint didn’t work as well as I had hoped and bled through more than I expected.
If you don’t want to use acrylic or canvas, this project works great on card stock and you can use the tempura paint with much better results.
Use thinner tape, we used 1 inch wide tape and I think that it was too wide, the pin didn’t say what size tap to use, but I would use 1/2 inch for better results.
This was a fun project and turned out pretty good, despite the things mentioned above. Definitely worth trying with your kids 🙂
