More than 49 million people are food insecure. 16 million of those are children. Let me say that again, 16 million children don’t know where their next meal is coming from. That is just not right. No child should go hungry. Ever.
I try to make a difference where I can, we donate to our local food bank and volunteer there as often as we can, but I felt like I needed to do more, so I’m using my voice here and taking the fight to you, my awesome readers. I’m challenging you to get involved and help those families that are struggling to find their next meal. I have teamed up with Walmart and their #HolidayMakeover campaign, where 75 food pantries across the country will receive $20,000 grants to help serve their communities needs more efficiently.
As the nation’s largest grocer, Walmart is take a leading role on the issue of hunger in the United States. The Walmart Foundation recently exceeded their $2 billion commitment to fight hunger in America one year ahead of schedule, and have donated more than 1.5 billion pounds of food to those in need across the country. In addition, Walmart recently announced new goals to provide access to affordable, nutritious, sustainably grown food to those in need. This includes providing four billion healthier meals to those in need in the U.S. over the next five years.
They can’t do it alone though, they need people like you and me to get involved and help out where we can. You don’t have to do much, even a small donation of time or money can make a huge difference.
Here is where we really need your help today! Watch this video, then go vote for your local food pantry:
Make a commitment to help your community, even if it’s just to vote for your food bank everyday until December 12th. You can make a difference this holiday season!
