The new Percy Jackson DVD/Blu-ray, Sea of Monsters, hits stores today and we were fortunate to attend the release party at the Georgia Aquarium last night. This was not your typical release party though, this was a charity event for Project Linus.
Inspired by the Golden Fleece in Percy Jackson; Sea of Monsters, 21st Century Fox and UPS teamed up with Project Linus to make handmade fleece blankets for kids in need to kick off Project Linus’ annual “National Make a Blanket Day” on February 15th.
Project Linus has a mission to provide love, warmth, comfort and a sense of security to children who are very ill, traumatized or in need through gifts of handmade blankets made by volunteers, lovingly called “blanketeers”.
My kids and I got to be blanketeers last night along with UPS and Fox employees, fellow bloggers and volunteers, and Stephanie Schlund of Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Together we spent the evening making fleece blankets that will be sent to children in need all around the world.
Kudos to FOX and UPS for sponsoring such a great event. It was a wonderful way to spend an evening away from the holiday hustle and bustle and have my family focus on time together watching Percy Jackson; Sea of Monsters and contributing to a great charity.
If you would like to help support Project Linus please visit their website to find a chapter in your area and find out what you can do to help.
