Berry Smoothie
This summer I decided it was time to reclaim my health. I already eat pretty healthy, but I felt like there was something missing. I knew what it was, I just didn’t want to acknowledge it…….Exercise. The missing link was exercise. Ugh. Not my favorite word by any stretch of the imagination. I’m perfectly content just planting my self in a chair and growing roots. I’m not a very athletic person so it’s not in my nature to be all “Yay! Let’s get sweaty and gross!” (The exception is tennis, but darn if I’m going to play tennis in the Hotlanta summer.)
Around this time that I realized I needed to move my booty for optimum health, a sweet friend asked me to come and try her crossfit class with her. Um, what? Say that again….. burpees, mountain climbers and pull ups? Yeah, no. When I said I wanted to exercise more, I was thinking senior jazzercize at the Y, not military boot camp. Well somehow she convinced me to try it (I’m pretty sure there was the promise of wine after).
Guess what? I didn’t die! I actually made it through a work out and it wasn’t the worst thing ever. Well until the soreness kicked in the next day. Then it was the worst thing ever. I had soreness where I didn’t even know there were muscles. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it back to the gym after that, but I realized that all that soreness meant things were changing for the better and the only way to see some real change was to get back in there. So I did, and it’s been pretty awesome.
I have learned a couple tricks over the last few weeks to make sure that I’m performing at my best, post work out. One of my favorites is this post workout Berry Smoothie!
Since I’ve been working out, I’ve learned is how important it is to properly refuel your body after a workout. It doesn’t do much good to workout and then come home and eat a 20 peanut butter cups, so I came up with this superfood packed berry smoothie to drink after intense workouts. It’s full of superfoods and tastes amazing, not peanut butter cup amazing, but it’s berry delicious 🙂
Ingredients
- Coconut water
- 1/2 cup greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1/2 raspberries
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 1 cup spinach
- 1/2 of a banana
Instructions
- pour coconut water into ice cube trays the night before and freeze (keep these on hand for any other smoothies!)
- Add coconut water ice cubes and all other ingredients to a blender.
- Blend on high until smooth
Okay so let’s talk about what we have learned today:
- Moving your body is actually good for you. Do it more often!
- Soreness is to be expected when you first start working out, keep going!
- You can’t refuel your body with peanut butter cups after a workout. You have to choose good for you foods, like this really yummy Berry Smoothie!
Now get out there and get moving!!
