As moms, we are pulled in 20 different directions, 100 times a day. We are the chief bottom wiper, hair dresser, dry cleaner, maid, chef, referee….the list goes on and on and on. In the midst of all the chaos, it is so easy to forget that you are an actual person, with needs of your own. How many times do you neglect your own needs to meet the needs of your family? I already know the answer….ALL.THE.TIME.
One big thing that I neglect is my own healthcare. I never hesitate to take my kids to the doc if there is something going on and we never miss a yearly check up. When it comes to my healthcare however, I have to be close to death to even think about taking the time to make an appointment to see my doctor, and a yearly physical, yeah right, ain’t no one got time for that… Here’s the thing though, our whole family falls apart if we are not well enough to take care of them, you know it’s true, when mom is incapacitated marshal law is declared and it’s every man for himself. It’s truly terrifying. (They look so innocent, but don’t let them fool you… they are time sucking minions)
This year, I decided to prevent a state of emergency by getting a *gasp* preventative health screening. A quick call to my doc told me that it would be at least 3 weeks before I could be seen…..ummmm, I’m not sure what I will be doing in 3 hours, let alone 3 weeks. I had free time now, who knows when that would happen again. What’s a girl to do? I jumped online and found a Walgreens Healthcare Clinic Atlanta. I was super stoked to find out that they do health screenings (among tons of other things), best part I was able to schedule my appointment right away. A few quick clicks and I was able to see the locations closest to me and their available appointment times.
I quickly secured my appointment grabbed my keys and wished my husband luck as I peeled out of the driveway. What? Don’t judge, free time is free time, even if it is to get poked and prodded by a health care professional.
I arrived 5 minutes early, checked in at the Healtcare Clinic kiosk and patiently waited my turn.
I was immediately called back into the room by the nurse practitioner on duty. She was very pleasant and efficient. Fortunately I hadn’t had breakfast that morning (yep I neglected myself yet again) so I was able to get my cholesterol and blood sugar checked (make sure that you fast for 9-12 hours before a health screening) I passed! Woohoo! My nurse practitioner checked my blood pressure, weight and sat down to talk with me about small changes that I could make to improve my health. I was in and out in about 30 minutes and was relieved that I was in good health and able to return to the battlefield.
Thanks to Walgreens Healthcare Clinics I was able to get a health screening at a time that was convenient for me and my family. The whole process couldn’t have been easier. At least I won’t have to neglect my health anymore…. Now I just need to find a way to use the bathroom by myself, yeah right, like that will ever happen lol!
