After visiting the Louisville Science Center, we were completely famished, a quick check of UrbanSpoon gave us several restaurants nearby, we all were craving barbecue so Doc Crow’s seemed like the perfect place. I’m so glad we went! The food and atmosphere were perfect and we had a great time!
Doc Crow’s is located in the historic whiskey row in downtown Louisville, in an old brick building. The inside of the restaurant has a full raw bar (we passed on that since we had the kids with us) and about 20 tables in the front of the restaurant. It looks small from the outside, but this restaurant goes on for miles. If you walk past the bar, you go down a hallway with cozy booths on either side and then the hallway opens up in the back to another very large dining room. I love the decor in this place. We sat at a rustic looking picnic style table with 2 bench seats, perfect for our big family.
The menu selection is extensive, it all sounded so good, I had a hard time deciding what to get. Some of the options included, seafood gumbo, pulled pork tacos, fried green tomatoes (a southern favorite!), po boys and much more. In the end I decided on a brisket sandwich. It was pure heaven, the meat was so tender and smothered in a tangy, yet sweet barbecue sauce. I got hush puppies on the side, they were giant and so good! Entrees start at $9. Sandwiches are served with chips, burgers are served with fries and the other entrees are served A la carte, so no sides are included. You can purchase sides for $3 each and they include hush puppies, mac and cheese, cheddar grits and much more. The sides are huge and could easily be split between 2 or 3 people.
They also have a kids menu with mini burger, mini pulled pork, pizza and chicken fingers. The kids portions are huge! My little girls were unable to finish their meals, it was just too much food. The kids meals don’t include a drink, but do include a side and are $5 each.
We were really hoping to sample the upside down apple cake, it sounded amazing, but they were out the day we came, so we passed on dessert altogether.
If you happen to be in downtown Louisville, this is the place to eat! Highly recommended by me and my family.
