Yesterday I took my traveling circus to the Big Apple Circus 🙂 We had gone last year and LOVED it, we were expecting nothing short of spectacular and, boy, did they deliver! This year’s show was absolutely amazing.
The Big Apple Circus is not your typical circus, it is a very intimate setting with no seat being farther than 50 feet from the single circus ring. We were very lucky to be in the second row where you could practically reach out and touch the performers.
The show started of with a dance number showcasing New York City with the help a live band.
Next we were introduced to Rob, our clown for the afternoon. Rob wasn’t your typical clown, no big shoes, no red nose and no make up. He was hilarious and adorable and you couldn’t help but want to put him in your pocket and take him home. He was my favorite part of the show, I loved how he was able to entertain us in between acts with just simple comedy, nothing over the top and very reminiscent of Vaudeville.
The acts that we saw were nothing short of incredible and sometimes down right dangerous. I was on the edge of my seat with my heart in my throat throughout much of the show.
We saw incredible feats of strength! Daniel Cyr and his free standing ladder left me in awe. The balance and strength that this man had was unbelievable. Not to be out done, the AcroDuo left us speechless as they lifted and balanced each other with ease, they truly made it look effortless
Ty Tojo impressed us all. The speed at which he juggled was nothing short of amazing. It was obvious that he loves what he does and has fun while he’s doing it, his constant enthusiasm throughout the whole performance was contagious.
No circus is complete with out some adorable animal acts! Jenny Vidbel is a third generation animal trainer and her love for her animals was present in everything she did. Her dogs were adorable and very excitable lol! The horses were majestic and she commanded them with grace.
Duo Guerrero, left you absolutely speechless as they navigated the treacherous high wire. Aura Cardinali impressed us all by singing with her robust and beautiful voice throughout the entire performance. She belted out a love song while balancing a top the high wire on a chair and also while perched on her partners’ shoulders while he made his way down a tightrope. WOW!
The Desov Troupe, the last act, left me on the edge of my seat, with my heart pounding as they launched acrobat after acrobat through the air. When they brought the man out on the 10 foot tall stilts, I could hardly breathe. They launched him off the teeter board and he flew end over end, stilts and all, and landed perfectly right in front of the kids and me. I’m pretty sure that I didn’t breathe once throughout that entire performance.
The Big Apple Circus is the only circus that we continue to go to year after year. We have never been disappointed and my kids look forward to it every year. If you have the chance to see it, definitely do it, you won’t be disappointed!
