10 Minute Aromatherapy Pillow DIY

If you are anything like me, you spend countless time standing at the sink up to your elbows in dirty, greasy dishes and wishing that you could be anywhere else. I wish I could tell you that I have found the magical trick to getting clean dishes while you relax on a beach somewhere, but I haven’t. What I have found is a way to cut my dish washing time in half and be pleasantly relaxed while standing at the sink.

Dawn Destinations is a new line of Dawn soap with the same grease fighting power that you have come to rely on with Dawn, but with new exotic scents that are both relaxing and inspiring. I’m not going to lie and claim that this new line of Dawn dish soaps makes me actually want to do the dishes, cause that would just be crazy nobody actually wants to do the dishes, but it will make a tedious chore a bit more efficient and pleasant. I tried the Thai Dragon Fruit scent and it’s fresh, fruity scent was divine. The best part was that the scent didn’t take away from the grease cutting power that I have always loved about Dawn, I was able to get the dishes clean in the half the time it takes me if I use another brand.

To keep the relaxation theme going, I have made a tutorial for making an aromatherapy pillow infused with lavender for those days when you just need to unwind after a long day of breaking up sibling fights, helping with schoolwork, and scrubbing stains of unknown origin out of the carpet. This pillow is so easy to make and would make a great gift too!

Materials needed:

Dawn Destinations 1

1 tube or knee high sock (You can find some really cute ones online for pretty cheap)

White rice

Lavender essential oil

Cut the sock into a rectangle by cutting off the top and the foot of the sock, see below:

Dawn Destinations 2

Turn the rectangle inside out and stitch one side completely

Dawn Destinations 3

Stitch the other side leaving a hole for turning and pouring in the rice

Dawn Destinations 4

Turn the sock right side out

Dawn Destinations 5

Pour the rice into the tube with a funnel

Dawn Destinations 6

Add 10-15 drops of lavender essential oil

Dawn Destinations 7

Close the hole and top stitch both short ends

That’s it! You now have an aromatherapy pillow that is perfect for winding down after a long day, just heat for 30-45 seconds in the microwave and wrap it around your neck while you watch TV or read a book, it is great for relieving neck and shoulder tension, plus it smells heavenly!

How did you know that is exactly what I have been meaning to make! And a sock..hadn’t thought about that. THey come in such fun colors..I will pick a pair up! i was wondering if it it just regular white rice as heating that might be a problem but if it works for you…guess it is okay. I intend to make a larger one for my lower back. Where do you get the oil? Follow you from Needle and Thread linky!

LOL! It’s such a simple project ๐Ÿ™‚ I haven’t had any trouble with the rice, but if you are worried about it I have heard of other people using cherry pits instead. I got the lavender from Amazon http://amzn.to/1p1r3qO I would love to know how it turns out when you make it ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!
