Did you make a new year’s resolution? I sure did! I’ve decided that this is the year that I put more focus on myself. I have given so much of myself to my family that often my needs and wants fall by the wayside. Sound familiar? As moms it’s in our nature to put everybody else first, leaving little to no time to take care of our physical, mental & emotional needs. I’ve come to realize that taking some time to better myself is so important. If I don’t invest in myself, I will get completely burnt out and become pretty useless to everyone around me.

What exactly does making myself a priority look like? I’m glad you asked. On my quest to be a better me this year I have implemented 3 things that are so simple, but so important to my overall wellness.

Time For Myself

I have put my family on notice. Every Friday morning is my morning. Whether I want to relax in a bath and read a trashy romance, treat myself to a manicure or binge watch Empire. Friday morning is my time to focus on me and only me. Selfish? Yep. But I don’t care. I deserve it. I need it. Heaven help the child that knocks on my door between 9 & 12 on a Friday morning.

Budgeting

I’m not talking about money here. I’m talking about budgeting my time. Looking back on the last year I realized I wasted so much of my life on time sucks. Facebook, Pinterest & Instagram were the biggest culprits. I wasted hours getting lost in the world of perfect parties, adorable kids and those addicting cat videos! That time could have been much better spent making memories with my family. I’m not giving these things up completely, but I’m setting limits on how much time I devote to stalking my social media BFFs.

Exercise

This one is probably the hardest for me. I’m not a person that likes to exercise just for the sake of exercise. I hate treadmills, ellipticals, or anything that makes me feel like a freaking hamster. For me to want to move my lazy behind, it’s got to be for something fun. So I’ve decided to play as much tennis this year as I can. I LOVE tennis. It’s fun and social, making it the perfect way to trick my mind and body into moving more.

I know y’all are wondering what in the world this has to do with a recipe for Protein Packed Peanut Butter & Quinoa Bombs. Simple. Everything above requires motivation and energy. Energy can be hard to come by, so I came up with a snack that I can easily make, easily store and will help me beat the afternoon slump and give me an energy boost before and after an hour or 2 of tennis.

These peanut butter bombs are made with Jif peanut powder, puffed quinoa and coconut oil. You already know how I feel about quinoa and why it’s one of my favorite energy boosting foods (if you missed that post, you can see all the benefits of quinoa here).  Jif Peanut Powder is my new go to ingredient when I need some protein to keep me going on busy days. Unlike other peanut powders, Jif is made from one simple ingredient, roasted peanuts. I love that they don’t feel the need to add extras like salt and sugar, making it a great product for smoothies and these awesome Protein Packed Peanut Butter & Quinoa Bombs.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Jif Peanut Powder (You can find Jif Peanut Powder at your local Walmart in the peanut butter aisle)

Jif Peanut Powder at Walmart
1/4 cup unsweetened Silk Almond Milk
3/4 cup puffed/popped quinoa (here is a great tutorial on how to pop your own)
3 tbsp pure maple syrup or raw honey
2 tbsp coconut oil

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients in a medium sized bowl.

Mix well.

Form into balls and place on a cookie sheet.

Refrigerate for 30 minutes

Store in refrigerator for up to 7 days.
