I was recently challenged by Quaker® Oats to “Bring Your Best Bowl“. I was asked to create a unique oatmeal recipe using only 2-5 ingredients and share it with all of you. Quaker® Oats also wants you to know about their exciting Bring Your Best Bowl Contest where one person will have a chance to win $250,000 AND inspire a new flavor of oatmeal to be sold in stores nationwide this fall! How cool would it be to see your recipe on store shelves?! The contest starts now and runs until March 12, 2016. The winner will announced in November of 2016. When I was thinking of a recipe to share, my thoughts kept coming back to this chocolate covered strawberry oatmeal recipe that I came up with a few years ago when I was on a big oatmeal kick. Not only is this oatmeal recipe ridiculously delicious, but it even has it’s own backstory. Can your oatmeal say that?
When I was a kid I used to dream of dessert for breakfast. I would beg my mom to let me eat a bowl of ice cream in the morning instead of cereal. I tried every ploy known to man. I gave her the sad puppy face. Didn’t work. I tried logic, “Ice cream and cereal are both made with milk so they are basically the same thing mom! Pleeeeeeeeasssse!”. She didn’t budge. I even tried guilt, “If you really loved me, you’d let me eat ice cream for breakfast.” Nothing. Was she made of stone? I vowed that when I was a grown up I would eat ice cream for breakfast every single morning.
Well, now that I’m a grown up and a mom, I get where she was coming from. The circle of parenting is complete as I find myself having the exact same argument with my kids. While I won’t give in a let them eat ice cream for breakfast, I will occasionally make them this decadent chocolate covered strawberry oatmeal and use my jedi mind tricks to make them think they are getting one over on me. It’s parenting manipulation at it’s finest people.
Are you ready to indulge in a rich and creamy breakfast treat?
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
