You probably know by now that I love to make cute little skirts and dresses for my 3 youngest girls. My 7 year old is a total diva and always has to have matching accessories, mainly hair bows. Tired of spending money on expensive hairbows, I decided that I could make my own using the scrap scrap fabric left over from a skirt or dress that I made. Surprisingly it was really easy to create and adorable, perfectly matched bow for my little fashionista.
Materials needed:
2 pieces of fabric 4 x 12 inches (use a rotary cutter and mat to get the most accurate measurements and cuts.)
1 piece of coordinating fabric 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches (loop piece)
Coordinating thread
Alligator clip
Pin 4 x 12 fabric together, right sides together and edge to edge. Sew around the edges with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving a 1 inch opening in one end for turning.
Clip corners and turn right side out. Press.
Fold the bow in half and press to mark the center. Open the bow so that the fold facing you
With the fold facing you, fold the right side of the bow to the center and pin then edgestitch.
Repeat with the left side
With the wrong side of the loop piece facing you, fold each long edge over 1/2 inch and press
Fold the loop piece in half lengthwise, making sure that the edges are lined up. Press then pin in place. Edgestitch along each long side of the loop. Fold each short edge under 1/2 inch and press.
With the loop facing up, position the top end of the loop at the center of the back of the bow and pin.
Wrapping the bow: Lift loop to reveal raw end. Fold fabric into a bow shape.
Wrap loop under the bow and continue wrapping until the ends of the loop meet. Pin in place.
Slipstitch the ends of the loop together. Slip alligator clip under the loop.
There you have it! Sew easy!
