A Visit to the Georgia Aquarium

photo 2(3)

I have to admit that as much as I fought it, Atlanta has become one of my favorite cities. Being a born and bred west coast transplant, I think that we are prewired to dislike anything that isn’t on the west coast, but Atlanta has won me over, the attractions here are truly world class and fantastic for families visiting, or locals enjoying a staycation. The past few weeks I have had the chance to experience some of Atlanta’s best attractions and I will be sharing them with you over the next few weeks. One of the places I got to visit was the Georgia Aquarium. Opened in 2005, the Georgia … [Read more...]

Hosting an Ice Cream Social

Ice Cream Social Wet-Nap

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Wet-Nap but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #showusyourmess It was a beautiful weekend here in the south, temps hanging out in the high seventies, party cloudy, and a wonderful spring breeze. Perfect weather for an ice cream social with some of my best friends and their families. I don't know about you but when I was a kid, being invited to an ice cream social was just about the coolest thing ever! All you can eat ice cream fixed any way you like? Yes, please! I hit my local … [Read more...]

Let’em Fight! Why Sibling Fights are Actually a Good Thing

Brother shouting at sister sticking her tongue out

As you can imagine, with 6 kids we have A LOT of fighting, seriously, most mornings at our house play out like an episode of Dr. Phil. Drama, accusations, betrayal and if I'm really lucky we devolve into Jerry Springer, complete with hair pulling and an audience cheering them on. What do I do on these glorious mornings when I wake up to another sibling squabble? I grab a cup of coffee and a bowl of popcorn and take advantage of my ringside seats to the fight of the century. Here's the thing, it drives us crazy when our kids fight, it's annoying, heartbreaking and enough to … [Read more...]

UNI_WAG_SimpleSocial_Asset1_2[3] (1)

Rice Krispies Bird Nests – a Fun Easter Treat

nest title

Can you tell I'm on an Easter treat kick? The kids and I are having such a fun time trying out new ideas for fun Easter snacks and treats. Over the next few days you are going to be bombarded with all our fun and yummy creations! Our latest project turned out even better than I had thought it would, the little birds nests were so adorable I didn't want to see them devoured, but alas, in a house with 6 kids, treats are devoured as soon as they are created (and sometimes sooner lol). I managed to keep them away long enough to get some pictures just so I could share this fun treat … [Read more...]

Vanilla Ice Parenting

vanilla ice parent

Got your attention didn't I?  What is Vanilla Ice parenting you ask? Vanilla Ice parenting is my name for helicopter or rescue parenting. Pulled straight out of Ice, Ice, Baby (totally going to show how uncool I really am here) "If you got a problem, yo, I'll solve it" (you know you totally just sang the rest of it!) So what exactly is rescue parenting?  Rescue parenting (also called helicopter parenting, enabling and many other things) is basically just what is says. Parents "rescue" their children from life's uncomfortable moments to keep them from getting hurt, disappointed … [Read more...]

Colorful Rice Krispy Easter Eggs

rice crispy eggs title

I absolutely love creating fun Easter treats. Brightly colored goodies make me a little weak in the knees. I remember making these treats in elementary school and filling them with jelly beans and I make them every year with my kids. They are so simple and yummy and the kids love them! First melt butter and marshmallows in a pot over medium heat stirring constantly Once everything is nice and melted, add food coloring and stir well Next add rice krispies and stir again. Remove from heat and wait for it to cool a bit before handling. Mold into an egg shape. I … [Read more...]
