Star Spangled Fruit Skewers. What a fun and healthy treat for your next backyard BBQ! This would be perfect for Fourth of July.

It’s summer! Time for backyard BBQs, picnics in the park, lazy days at the pool and of course one of my favorite holidays, Independence Day!
For me, the Fourth of July is the official summer kickoff. Gathering with all your friends and family to eat and watch fireworks, kids running around with sparklers at dusk, watermelon juice dripping from their chin, adults hanging out grilling, cool beer in hand. Seriously, does it get any better than that?

This year at our Fourth of July get together I will be serving these delightful Star Spangled Fruit Skewers. Who doesn’t love watermelon and it’s even better when you cut it into a star and put it on a stick (why is food always better on a stick?) add some marshmallows and blueberries and you have a sure fire hit!

All you need to create these treats are mini marshmallows, fresh blueberries, whole watermelon, wooden skewers and a star cookie cutter.

Start by slicing the watermelon into a several circular pieces. Using a medium sized star cookie cutter cut your watermelon into several star shapes.

Alternate blueberries and marshmallows on the stick until you get about 2 inches from the top then place the water melon star at the top. Do this for as many skewers as you want! See? Easy Peasy!

You now have a healthy and fun Fourth of July treat. Enjoy!
